Terms and conditions
General
- The minimum age for enrolment is 16.
- Start dates can only be altered prior to the start of the course. A £20 fee will be charged.
- The school reserves the right to change teachers, times, rooms and location of courses.
- The school reserves the right to combine classes if necessary if numbers are low and to close classes if numbers fall and place students in suitable other classes which may be in a different location.
- The school accepts no responsibility for personal injury or for the loss of or damage to students’ personal property while on the school premises.
Attendance
- If attendance falls below 85% a student may lose their place in the class and may have to continue in a different location, class or time. No refunds will be given and the UK Border Agency will be informed.
- It is the responsibility of students to inform reception of all absences by emailing students@the-englishstudio.com
- Students on a 15 hours a week course with a student visa must attend an Exam Skills Class once a week. Attendance at these classes is included in your general attendance rate. This class is free.
Registration fee
- A European registration fee of £35 will be charged on all courses.
- Visitor visa registration fee of £75 (including courier) will be charged on all courses.
- Tier 4 Visa registration fee of £75. Plus an additional £10 to issue a CAS number.
- The fee covers the cost of all school letters, administrative help and work involved with London transport discount forms.
- Course and registration fees do not cover the cost of External examination fees, personal medical insurance, £5 London Transport fee or social programme events.
All Students are entitled to
- Placement test
- Personal tutorials with their teacher
- Certificate at the end of the course
- Photocopies and supplementary material provided in the class
- Access to computers and internet
- DVD and book library (on payment of a £20 deposit)
Refunds and cancellations
- Refunds will only be given if a student is refused a student visa. Email refunds@the-englishstudio.
- 10% of the course fee (for courses lasting less than six months) or a minimum of £100 will be retained.
- If you are refused because the documents you submit to obtain your visa are different to those you originally submitted to obtain a CAS, you will not be eligible for a refund.
- Refunds WILL NOT be given without official documentation.
- Fees and/or courses are not transferable to another student
- Refunds may take up to two months from the date the original documentation has been received.
- Examination fees cannot be refunded
- Refunds will not be given if a student withdraws visa application
- Refunds will not be given if the student is asked to leave the country by the British Authorities
- Refunds will not be given to students who are refused entry into the country at ports of entry without entry clearance as a student
- Registration fees, accommodation booking fees and courier fees are non-refundable
- Airport transfers can be changed, postponed or cancelled with a minimum 1 week’s notice in writing
- If you do a level test from your country but arrive in the UK with a clearly lower level than the result of your test indicates, then the Director of Studies will be informed. He will interview you and if he feels that you have dishonestly completed your level test, we will inform the UKBA and you may have to leave the United Kingdom WITHOUT a refund of your course fees.
- If you refuse to show your bank statements when enrolling and your visa is refused to maintenance, you will not receive a refund of your course fees.
Classes
- The maximum class size is 27 with an average of 18. The maximum class size for premium courses is 18 with an average of 10.
- In every class there is a 15-minute break.
- You will be placed in one of our four centres — you will be told this a week before the commencement of the course.
- To guarantee your centre of choice you can pay 20% extra on your course fee.
- Each term normally lasts three months. At the end of each term your level and teacher may be changed
- Teachers sometimes fall ill. In this case we will try to provide a substitute. This is not always possible
- The school operates continuous enrolment which means students will join the class any Monday during each term
- Students on part-time courses are placed in the same classes as full-time students and come from between one and four days instead of five. The teacher will attempt to keep part-time students aware of what they have missed.
- Only English is to be spoken in the class. Students will be asked to leave the class if they repeatedly speak any other language after being warned by the teacher
Holidays
- The school is closed for three weeks over the Christmas Period.
- The school will add weeks onto courses to compensate for time lost due to these closures.
- Students on student visas must use some of their authorised holiday entitlement during this closure.
- For students on student visas the following holiday entitlement is allowed in addition to school holidays. Absence from the school during this entitlement will not affect a student’s attendance record
- Up to 7 Weeks - none
- 8-12 weeks - 1 week’s holiday
- 12-17 weeks - 2 weeks’ holiday
- 18 to 23 weeks - 3 weeks’ holiday
- 24 to 29 weeks - 4 weeks’ holiday
- 30-35 weeks – 6 weeks’ holiday
- 36-39 weeks – 8 weeks’ holiday
- 40+ weeks – 12 weeks’ holiday
- The school is closed for Public Holidays and three Teacher Training days. Courses will NOT be extended during these closures.
Conduct and discipline
- The school reserves the right to expel students if they physically or verbally abuse any other student or member of staff. They will be given one verbal and one written warning and on the next incident they will be asked to leave. In the case of gross misconduct the student will be asked to leave immediately. No refunds will be given in this case
- Smoking is not permitted in any of the school buildings or outside areas within the school
- Students can make a complaint in writing to the Principal about any aspect of the school, its staff and/or accommodation service. They will be answered within 24 hours by email.
- If a complaint cannot be resolved students are permitted to complain to English UK in writing who will investigate the complaint on their behalf.
Accommodation
- The school reserves the right to provide alternative accommodation should the student’s first choice not be available.
Cancellation policy for Home Stays
- If cancelled 30 days or more prior to the arrival date, your fees will be refunded in full.
- Between 29 and 8 days, your fees will be refunded, minus 1 week.
- Between 7 days and 3 days, your fees will be refunded, minus 2 weeks.
- 2 days or less (including failure to advise of non arrival), your fees will be refunded minus 4 weeks.
- 14 days or prior to the arrival date, your fees will be refunded, minus 5% of the total
accommodation fee. - Between 27 and 8 days, your fees will be refunded minus 50% of the total accommodation fee.
- 7 days or less, your fees will not be
refunded.
- All cancellations must be received during office hours Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays are excluded (including the days between Christmas and New Year).
