This course is for those who use or intend to use English in a business environment. Classes focus on language skills for the business world, including telephoning, negotiating, attending meetings and writing reports.

  j) Conversation/pronunciation

Conversation
This supplementary course develops speaking skills in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. You discuss interesting topics and practice typical conversations that occur in social, study or work life. Fluency is encouraged and correction is done at the end of the discussion. This course is also designed to help students improve the clarity of their spoken English, through learning how sounds in English are physically made and how these sounds fit together to form our spoken language. They will be given the opportunity to practice their pronunciation and receive correction from their teacher. Students will also be taught to recognise and understand a wide variety of regional and international accents. This course can be taken as a regular class, or an intensive course can be booked.

As this course is only 5 hours per week it is not possible to get a student visa by only enrolling on this course. It is possible to get a student visa if this course is combined with a general english course of 15 hourse per week.

Students can choose an intensive, ‘Full-time Computer Course’ or can choose a ‘Combined Computer & English’ course. On all courses, students can work towards a qualification accredited by City & Guilds. All computer courses provide the opportunity to gain general proficiency in computers or to learn how to use a specific software package.

  a) Full Time Computing

Learn to use specific computer packages as follows:

  • Microsoft Word: – become proficient in all areas of file creation and management and produce your perfect CV.
  • Microsoft Excel – an important tool in the world of business and accounting.
  • Microsoft Powerpoint – learn to create clear and effective business presentations.
  • Microsoft Access – become skilled in the creation and maintenance of databases.
  • Internet Explorer – learn how to surf the web skillfully and efficiently.
  • Email & Outlook – students will learn how to make best use of the most widely-used methods of Internet communication in today.
  • Web Design – learn how to use a variety of packages to create your own website.
  • Adobe Photoshop – this will enable students to create and manipulate images, photographs and fonts for use as printed material and online.
  • Macromedia Dreamweaver – how to make your new website the best there is, including all interactive aspects of website use.
  • Macromedia Flash – learn how to include animation and other moving images in your website with both Flash and Actionscript.
  • Students can work towards an IT qualification accredited by City & Guilds. These range from A level 1 Certificate to A level 3 Advanced Diploma. Students can choose to study full time (15 hours per week), part time (3-12 hours per week) or to combine an English and Computer course (6 hours per week computers and 9 hours per week English) spread between two weeks and two years, depending on individual requirements.

Why do this course?

To improve your skills in using a computer for an office environment and prove your competence in using a computer to potential employers. To further your career in IT.

How will you be assessed?

Students will complete an assignment for each module which will be assessed by our qualified English Studio assessor. Assignments are only undertaken when both the student and the assessor agree that the student is ready. The student must also pass one multiple-choice online test for both levels.

What can the course lead to?

Because we allow students to include additional training units in computers, the course can help you find employment in a range of related areas, including the IT industry. Completion of year two qualifies students for a job in PC support.

What are the entry requirements?

No previous qualifications or experience are necessary. There is an entry test to assess the individual candidate’s existing knowledge and skill with computers. If necessary, a pre-entry course will equip the student to start the course.

  a) English & Work Experience

Ideal for students and young professionals who want to improve their English in a working environment. The internship is unpaid, but the experience invaluable. The course consists of 75% English classes to 25% work experience. The work experience is full time and unpaid.

Students can choose from a variety of business sectors including: Marketing, Advertising, Fashion, Engineering, Architecture, Hotels, Import/Export and Administration.

Entry Requirements: Upper Intermediate level of English. Must have done some relevant work experience. Candidates must be aged between 18 and 30. Suitable for students on student visas. Placement subject to satisfactory interview.
