How we teach English

Over 10 years We have developed and refined our english language courses to provide high quality tuition and this is how:

What we won’t do

  • Treat you like an idiot. (Unlike some places we could mention.)

What we will do

  • Treat you like a person
  • Assess your written and spoken English. (Don’t worry - we’ll be gentle)
  • Advise you on the best course
  • Give you one-to-one tutorials. Just the two of you. (It’s the best way to learn)
  • Regularly assess your progress through written and spoken tests
  • Say ‘well done’ when you deserve it. And ‘tut tut’ when you don’t

Self-study

You don’t have to stop just because class is over. We have study areas especially for you. We have books, tapes, computers, broadband, crisps - the list goes on.

How we teach

We believe learning should be fun. That’s why all our lessons are interactive and dynamic. (Research says you learn better when you’re having fun.)

  • Each week, you’ll study grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
  • You’ll also practise reading, writing, listening, speaking and skills.
  • We’ll tell you what you’re going to learn at the start of each class.
  • We’ll always teach you language that is useful in real life. (“Which way to the Dali exhibition?” for example. Or “Can I have your phone number, please?”)
  • We’ll give you homework several times a week and correct it.
  • We’ll correct your spoken and written mistakes.
  • We’ll give you regular tests on what you’ve learned.
  • We’ll answer any questions you have and give individual help.
  • We’ll choose materials from many different books and resources not just one dull course book.
  • We’ll tuck you up in bed at night and read you a bedtime story.

(Okay. That last one’s a lie.)

Things to do on your own

  • Listening and pronunciation – we have a large library of cassettes, videos and subtitled video – so learning is enjoyable.
  • Reading English – simplified and authentic material
  • Grammar and vocabulary – written and computer exercises using special software
  • Exam practice – past papers, CD-ROMS and Internet sites.
  • Exploring London – use our guides, directories and maps to travel round London – and practise your skills on the natives. You’ll find us a friendly bunch (honest!).
